Festival MIX México – Cine, Diversidad Sexual y de Género (MIX Mexico) is a community-based event, the first and largest QUEER FILM FESTIVAL in Latin America. In 2025 we will be celebrating 30 uninterrupted years of MIX Mexico.

The 29th edition of MIX Mexico will take place from June 19 to 29, 2025 in some of the best venues in Mexico City and other states of the country.

RULES AND TERMS:

MIX Mexico will take place from June 19 to 29, 2025 in Mexico City and will have special screenings in other states of the country. Registration for the Festival is open for national and international feature films and short films, they can be fiction, documentary, animation or experimental.

All productions must have been completed by March 1, 2025.

MIX Mexico will prioritize national and world premieres of foreign films. In both cases, regional premieres (American, Latin American, South American) will also be prioritized. Exceptions to this rule are subject to the discretion of the programming area.

MIX Mexico's programming will include competitive and non-competitive sections. The selected films will be included in the section that the selection committee considers pertinent.

Competition MIX Section

7 to 9 feature films and 7 to 9 short films will be selected to be part of this section. Only films made in 2024 and 2025, that have not been previously released in Mexico, that are not for personal sale and that are not part of the catalog of any streaming platform may be selected for the COMPETITION MIX section. Only films that participate in this section, both feature and short, will be able to compete for the Butterfly MIX Award for Best Feature Film and the Butterfly MIX Award for Best Short Film, respectively. Likewise, the Special MIX Jury Award may only be awarded to feature films and short films (without distinction) that participate in the Competition MIX section.

MIX Panorama Section

There is no minimum or maximum number of feature films and short films that will be selected to be part of this section. Only feature films and short films made in the years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 that have not been shown in Mexico City, that have not been released in Mexico and are not part of the catalog of any streaming platform will be eligible for this section.

Pink MIX Section

There is no minimum or maximum number of feature films and short films that will be selected to be part of this section. Only feature films and short films of Mexican production made in the years 2024 and 2025, which have not been shown in Mexico City, which have not been released in Mexico and are not part of the catalog of any streaming platform, will be eligible for this section.

Before the deadline of this call (April 25, 2025), the producer who owns the rights to a film must inform MIX Mexico of their interest in participating, by sending the duly completed registration form. This form will have the character of an agreement and will state that the person knows and accepts these rules.

Participation in MIX Mexico implies acceptance of the following rules:

Once registered and selected, the film cannot be withdrawn from the MIX Mexico programming, nor can it be publicly exhibited in Mexico City before its official presentation at the festival and until July 2025. Exceptions to this rule will be discussed with whoever holds the rights to the film and will be subject to the discretion of the programming area.

People who have worked on the selected films agree not to make their participation public until the MIX Mexico programming is announced by the organizers. Failure to comply with this last point may result in the organizers considering withdrawing the film from the Festival.

Producers and distributors of films that are part of the Competition MIX Section agree to include the phrase “Competition MIX Mexico” in all their advertising and press material, using the MIX Mexico Festival logo. This commitment applies to both commercial film releases and commercial releases on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD.

• The producer who owns the rights must send the following data to MIX Mexico by mail or in digital format:
• Registration form, complete and signed
• Completed and signed registration form
• Original title of the film
• Language
• Spanish subtitles required, even for films spoken in this same language
• Country of origin
• Completion date
• Duration
• Exhibition format
• Aspect ratio
• Color and/or Black and white
• World or national premiere or Festivals where it has been previously shown
• If it has won awards and which ones
• Synopsis (maximum two lines)
• Biography of the director
• Information about the responsible producer who sends the film: name, address, telephone number, email and signature.
• Link to the spoken or subtitled trailer in English or Spanish. For online viewing, we recommend using a password

If you send a downloadable link, it must not have an expiration date. Avoid sending a Wetransfer link or similar, which are only valid for a limited number of days.

To participate, films must have been registered and submitted online no later than April 25, 2025, without exception.

No works in progress may be submitted.

MIX Mexico may use fragments of national and international films and/or trailers (maximum 3 minutes long) for promotional purposes.

In order to promote the programming and each of the selected films, MIX Mexico may use photographs, posters and trailers (less than 3 minutes long) of the films.

Decisions on the editorial content of our catalog are the exclusive responsibility of MIX Mexico.

The programming, dates and screening times of each film are decided by the MIX Mexico Organization.

The selected Spanish-language films must be submitted for screening with Spanish and English subtitles.

For foreign films in a language other than Spanish, a list of dialogues in English (with time codes) will be required for subtitling.

If accepted into MIX Mexico, you must confirm that there is no full copy of the film available online in Mexico or through VOD in Mexico prior to the screening.

Participation in MIX Mexico implies acceptance of these rules. Any conflict (organizational or operational) not provided for in these rules will be resolved electronically.

*Only films/feature films that are selected for the COMPETITION section may participate to obtain the MIX BUTTERFLY for best feature film.
** Only films/short films that are selected for the COMPETITION section may participate to obtain the MIX BUTTERFLY for best short film.
***The jury may decide (or not) to give a special award, whether to a film (feature film or short film), to a technical aspect of the film, to an actor/actress or to a member of the crew.
****Any Mexican film, feature film or short film from any section of the Festival may participate to obtain the PINK MIX BUTTERFLY.
*****The public attending the MIX MX Festival may vote for the best film/feature film and award the PUBLIC MIX BUTTERFLY.

REGLAS Y TÉRMINOS:
MIX México se llevará a cabo del 19 al 29 de junio de 2025 en la Ciudad de México y tendrá proyecciones especiales en otros estados del país. La inscripción al Festival está abierta para largometrajes y cortometrajes nacionales e internacionales, pueden ser de ficción, documentales, animación o experimentales.

Todas las producciones deberán haber sido completadas antes del 1 de marzo de 2025.

MIX México priorizará estrenos nacionales y mundiales de películas extranjeras. En ambos casos también se priorizarán estrenos regionales (americanos, latinoamericanos, sudamericanos). Las excepciones a esta regla quedan sujetas a la discreción del área de programación.

La programación de MIX México incluirá secciones competitivas y no competitivas. Las películas seleccionadas se incluirán en la sección que el comité de selección considere pertinente.

Sección Competencia MIX

Serán seleccionadas de 7 a 9 largometrajes y de 7 a 9 cortometrajes para formar parte de esta sección. Sólo podrán ser seleccionadas para la sección COMPETENCIA MIX películas realizadas en 2024 y 2025, que no hayan sido estrenadas previamente en México, que no estén a la venta personal y que no formen parte del cátalogo de alguna plataforma de streaming. Únicamente las películas que participan en esta sección, tanto largomemtrajes como cortometrajes, podrán competir por el Premio Mariposa MIX a Mejor Largometraje y el Premio Mariposa MIX a Mejor Cortometraje, respectivamemte. De igual forma, el Premio Especial del Jurado MIX, sólo podrá ser otorgado a los largometrajes y cortometrajes (sin distinción) que participen en la sección de Competencia. 

Sección Panorama MIX

No hay un número mínimo o máximo de largometrajes y cortometrajes que serán seleccionadas para formar parte de esta sección. Sólo serán elegibles para esta sección largometrajes y cortometrajes realizados en los años 2022, 2023, 2024 y 2025 que no se hayan exhibido en la Ciudad de México, que no se hayan estrenado en México y no formen parte del catálogo de alguna plataforma de streaming.

Sección Rosa MIX

No hay un número mínimo o máximo de largometrajes y cortometrajes que serán seleccionadas para formar parte de esta sección.  Sólo serán elegibles para esta sección largometrajes y cortometrajes de producción mexicana realizados enlos años 2024 y 2025, que no se hayan exhibido en la Ciudad de México, que no se hayan estrenado en México y no formen parte del catálogo de alguna plataforma de streaming.

Antes de la fecha límite de la presente convocatoria (25 de abril de 2025), el productor que posea los derechos de una película deberá informar a MIX México su interés en participar, enviando el formato de registro debidamente llenado. Dicho formato tendrá el carácter de acuerdo y en él se hará constar que la persona conoce y acepta estas bases.

La participación en el MIX México implica la aceptación de las siguientes bases:

Una vez registrada y seleccionada, la película no podrá ser retirada de la programación de MIX México, ni podrá ser exhibida públicamente en la Ciudad de México antes de su presentación oficial en el festival y hasta julio de 2025. Las excepciones a esta regla se comentarán con quien detente los derechos de la película y quedarán sujetas a la discreción del área de programación.

Las personas que hayan trabajado en las películas seleccionadas se comprometen a no hacer pública su participación hasta que la programación de MIX México sea anunciada por los organizadores. De no cumplir con este último punto, los organizadores podrán considerar retirar la película del festival.

Los productores y distribuidores de películas que formen parte de la Sección Competencia, se comprometen a incluir la frase “MIX México – Selección Oficial en Competencia” en todo su material publicitario y de prensa, utilizando el logotipo del Festival MIX México. Este compromiso aplica tanto para estrenos comerciales de películas como para lanzamientos comerciales en Blu-ray, DVD y VOD.

El productor titular de los derechos deberá enviar a MIX México por correo o en formato digital los siguientes datos:

• Formato de registro, completo y firmado
• Título original de la película
• Idioma
• Subtitulaje en español obligatoro, incluso para películas habladas en este mismo idioma
• País de origen
• Fecha de finalización
• Duración
• Formato de exhibición
• Relación de aspecto
• Color y/o Blanco y negro
• Estreno mundial o nacional o Festivales en los que se ha exhibido anteriormente
• Si ha ganado premios y cuáles
• Sinopsis (máximo dos líneas)
• Biografía del director
• Datos del productor responsable que envía la película: nombre, dirección, teléfono, correo electrónico y su firma.
• Link del tráiler hablado o subtitulado en inglés o español. Para visionado online, recomendamos utilizar contraseña

En caso de enviar un enlace descargable, éste no debe tener fecha de caducidad. Evita enviar un enlaces de Wetransfer o similar, que sólo son válidos por un número limitado de días.

Para participar, las películas deberán haber sido inscritas y enviadas en línea, a más tardar, el 25 de abril de 2025, sin excepción.

No se podrán presentar obras en proceso de realización.

MIX México podrá utilizar fragmentos de películas nacionales e internacionales y/o trailers (de máximo 3 minutos de duración), con fines promocionales.

Con el objetivo de difundir la programación y cada una de las películas seleccionadas, MIX México podrá utilizar fotografías, carteles y trailers (de menos de 3 minutos de duración) de las películas.

Las decisiones sobre los contenidos editoriales de nuestro catálogo son responsabilidad exclusiva de MIX México.

La programación, fechas y horarios de proyección de cada película son decididos por la Organización de MIX México.

Las películas habladas en español seleccionadas deberán presentarse para su exhibición con subtítulos en español e inglés.

Para películas extranjeras en idioma distinto al español, se requerirá una lista de diálogos en inglés (con códigos de tiempo) para hacer el subtitulado.

En caso de ser aceptado en MIX México, deberá confirmar que no hay una copia completa de la película disponible en línea en México o a través de VOD en México, previo a la proyección.

La participación en MIX México implica la aceptación de este reglamento. Cualquier conflicto (de organización o funcionamiento) no previsto en este reglamento se resolverá por vía electrónica.

*Sólo las películas/largometrajes que sean seleccionadas para la sección COMPETENCIA podrán participar para obtener La MARIPOSA MIX al mejor largometraje.
** Sólo las películas/cortometrajes que sean seleccionadas para la sección COMPETENCIA podrán participar para obtener La MARIPOSA MIX al mejor cortometraje.
***El jurado podrá tomar la decisión (o no) de dar un premio especial, ya sea a una película (largometraje o cortometraje), a un aspecto técnico de la película, a un actor/actriz o a algún miembro del equipo.
****Cualquier película, largometraje o cortometraje, MEXICANOS, de cualquier sección del Festival, podrá participar para obtener La MARIPOSA ROSA MIX.
*****El público asistente al Festival MIX MX podrá votar por le mejor película/largometraje y otorgar La MARIPOSA DEL PÚBLICO MIX.
